Early in the history of the United States, the
founding fathers wanted a government that was run by competent
people. They wanted a government that would work together giving no
one person or one group of people absolute power. Because of the
need to have a diverse group of people with shared power running
our government we have three branches, the executive branch, the
judicial branch and the legislative branch. Each branch has powers
that complement and negate each other. It is a checks and balance
approach that works well for the people of the United States. The
Legislative, Executive and Judicial work together, yet separate.
People
There are a lot of people running the
government. There are the people in Washington DC called the
Federal Government. They are usually the President, the
Vice-President, the Senators, and the Congressmen. We have people
in every state running the state with online games. In the state
we have the Governors, the State Senators, and the State
Representatives. There are various departments in the state. We
have the local sheriff, the justice of the peace, and the local
school boards. All of these people from the President down to the
local school boards of education are elected by the people.
